The Physical Therapy Pro Bono National Honor Society (PTPBNHS) was created in 2014 as a result of the need to recognize outstanding physical students who provide pro bono services as part of their education. The eight founding member institutions of the PTPBNHS include Rutgers University, University of Kentucky, Lebanon Valley College, Husson University, Widener University, Wayne State University, Nazareth College, and Quinnipiac University. In 2017, we expanded the vision of the PTPBNHS to include any physical, occupational, or speech therapy students who provide pro bono services as part of their education. We are now known as the Pro Bono National Honor Society (PBNHS).

We currently have 24 member institutions and we are adding new members on a regular basis. The PBNHS offers travel scholarships to the Pro Bono Networking Conferences. We also partner with the PT Day of Service with their Pro Bono Incubator Program which provides grant money to pro bono therapy clinics.

The PBNHS is currently administered by Widener University’s Institute for Physical Therapy Education.
